Pennsylvania Society of Anesthesiologists - Home The Anthem Debacle It Aint Over Till Its Over Importantly in its policy statements and press releases since December 5th 2024 Anthem has carefully avoided committing to maintaining standard payment policies for anesthesia services in the future. It is possible that Anthem or another commercial insurer will attempt to introduce similar payment restrictions once public attention wanes. In response to this threat the anesthesiology community is strengthening its defenses. The ASA is working with several state legislatures who have expressed interest in passing laws that prevent insurance companies from deviating from established standards for processing anesthesia claims.
