EMS Week Spotlight: Meet John W. This EMS Week, we're proud to shine a light on John, one of our dedicated volunteers at Plaza Volunteer Rescue Squad. John’s EMS journey began back in 1997 in Northern Virginia, when a series of serious accidents near his family farm inspired him to step up and serve. “I wanted to help and make a difference—and knew I could,” he says. That commitment has never wavered. He started with rescue in Virginia Beach almost 9 years ago and joined Plaza Rescue in 2021. Since then, he’s become a crucial part of our team, serving as our Maintenance Lieutenant, ensuring our fleet is ready to roll and that every truck is stocked with oxygen and essentials to keep us mission-ready 24/7. Outside of EMS, John’s world revolves around his large, close-knit family. They love hitting the road together in their RV, making memories wherever they go. John was a volunteer firefighter during his time in Northern Virginia and is now planning to return to school to renew his paramedic certification—a true testament to his passion for learning and service.
