Statement from the National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force: Earlier today, an electrical arc in the track lighting system of the Escape and Evasion exhibit at the National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force caused minor sparks, prompting a swift and orderly response from museum staff and emergency personnel. The Museum extends its sincere appreciation to the Pooler Fire-Rescue for their rapid response and professionalism. Following established safety protocols, staff quickly evacuated the facility to ensure the safety of all visitors and personnel. No injuries were reported. The Museum has resumed normal operations and is open to welcome visitors. However, the Escape and Evasion exhibit will remain temporarily closed while the situation is assessed and repairs are made. All scheduled programming for Flags for the Fallen will proceed as planned. “We are grateful to our staff and the City Pooler Fire-Rescue team for their quick response,” said Dawn Brosnan, Director of Communications and Marketing. “We remain committed to honoring those who served, and all Memorial Day weekend events—including Flags for the Fallen—will proceed as scheduled.
