Little League Baseball Inc
Little League Baseball Inc, also known as Little League Baseball and Softball, is a renowned 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in the United States. It is widely recognized as the largest organized youth sports organization in the world.
Founding and History
Little League Baseball was founded in 1939 by Carl E. Stotz, a resident of Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Stotz, inspired by his love for professional baseball and a desire to provide children with the opportunity to play the sport like the Major Leaguers of the time, created the first Little League with three teams in Williamsport. These teams were sponsored by local businesses, including Lundy Lumber Company, Lycoming Dairy, and Jumbo Pretzel[1][2]. The organization was officially incorporated on October 10, 1950[2].
Over the years, Little League has grown significantly, expanding to every U.S. state and more than 80 countries worldwide. It hosts various divisions for children aged 4 to 16, including Little League Baseball, Little League Softball, and the Little League Challenger Division, which provides opportunities for children with disabilities[3][4].
Structure and Operations
The organization operates with a hierarchical structure. It begins with local leagues that are annually chartered through Little League International. These local leagues are supported by District Administrators who oversee multiple leagues in a geographic area, ensuring compliance with Little League regulations. The district level is further supervised by Regional Directors, with international operations managed from South Williamsport, Pennsylvania[3][4].
Little League emphasizes the values of Character, Courage, and Loyalty in its motto, fostering an environment where youth can develop life skills and discipline through team sports. The organization relies heavily on volunteers and community involvement to manage and conduct its programs effectively.
Programs and Benefits
- Divisions for All Ages: Offers programs for children from ages 4 to 16.

- Educational Resources: Provides access to Little League University for training and education.
- Safety and Support: Offers background checks and insurance for league participants.

Recognition and Partnerships
Little League has gained significant recognition and collaborates with major media outlets such as ESPN and ESPN2 for broadcasting its tournaments, including the Little League World Series[2].
