You’re probably familiar with Reduction I by Kondō Takahiro, the captivating sculpture usually found in Mia’s Buddhism gallery. It’s currently on view in the free exhibition “Transcendent Clay: The Kondō Family’s Path of Porcelain Innovations.” Join us Thursday night (5/15) to celebrate work by the Kondō family and hear from Kondō Takahiro himself. 5–9 pm, stop by Meet at Mia to create your own relief tile with Northern Clay Center, enjoy performances by Cantus and TaikoArts Midwest, and more. Free, no tickets required. Learn more: https://bit.ly/43vv0ic At 6 pm, Joe Earle, former head of Asian art at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, will give an insightful lecture on the exhibition. Following the lecture, ceramic artist Kondō Takahiro will join Earle onstage, with collector Jeffrey Horvitz, gallerist Joan Mirviss and Andreas Marks, Mia’s Mary Griggs Burke Curator of Japanese and Korean Art, for a lively panel discussion about Kondō Takahiro–his development, achievements, and international reception. Teen Perspectives: Minneapolis as Monument ✨ now on view in the Community Commons This exhibition features paintings, drawings, prints, and more by local high school student artists who participated in a program reflecting on the last five years in Minneapolis. Taking inspiration from the exhibition “Giants: Art from the Dean Collection of Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys,” students were encouraged to see themselves as giants. Artists Kprecia Ambers, Leslie Barlow, Graci Horne, Lissa Karpeh, and Akiko Ostlund, whose work is also on view, worked with students during multiple visits to create this powerful exhibition. See it for free through July 20th. Learn more: https://bit.ly/43eikv5 Sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield MN Center for Racial & Health Equity (fb)
