Juneau Douglas Ice Association

The Juneau Douglas Ice Association (JDIA) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation based in Juneau, Alaska. It is dedicated to providing a developmental and recreational youth hockey program for children aged 4 to 18.

Mission Statement

JDIA aims to create a safe and fun learning environment where youths can develop skills, character, confidence, and self-esteem through the sport of hockey. The organization emphasizes the importance of teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship.

Programs and Goals

JDIA operates various hockey programs, including Introduction to Hockey for beginners and age-specific divisions such as Mites, Squirts, Pee Wees, Bantams, and Midgets. The organization is committed to ensuring fair ice time for all players and promotes the participation of youth in hockey regardless of their physical abilities or financial means.

JDIA incorporates the American Development Model (ADM) developed by USA Hockey, which focuses on individual skill development, small area drills, and games. The ADM encourages players to engage in multiple sports and activities throughout the year to enhance their overall development as athletes.

Organizational Structure

The organization is managed by an eleven-member Board of Directors, all of whom are volunteers. The board members are elected by the general membership for three-year terms. Monthly board meetings are open to the public, and all members are invited to attend.

Facilities and Funding

JDIA utilizes the Treadwell Ice Arena in Juneau for practice sessions and games. The association receives partial funding from the Citizens of the City and Borough of Juneau through sales tax revenues.

Affiliations

JDIA is affiliated with the USA Hockey Association and the Alaska State Hockey Association.

History and Impact

Over its years of operation, JDIA has enrolled nearly 2,000 players into the sport of hockey and has won five state championships. The organization relies on the dedication of volunteers and the support of local communities to continue providing quality hockey programs for youth in Juneau, Alaska.

NEW USA HOCKEY NECK GUARDPOLICY. Beginning August 1 2024 USA Hockey is requiringall players under the age of 18 to wear neck guards on the ice. You can find more information here. JDIA will have neck guards available at cost for purchase at the rink.
