Join @mainstreetsilvercity and @silcotheatermainstreet for a Youth Filmmaking Workshop! The workshop, for youth age 10 to 17, will take place June 9 - 13, 9:00 am - 12:00 pm, at the Silco Theater. Part of the 2025 @silvercityfilmfest lineup of programming, the workshop provides a nurturing and supportive environment, encouraging participants to work independently or as part of a team, depending on each participant’s creative work style and comfort level. The instructors will walk participants through the filmmaking process, nurturing each participant’s creative process and offering technical skills, allowing them to finish the week with a completed micro-short film (approximately 45 seconds to 3 minutes in length) and the skills to create future films. As the lead instructor, David James Baker brings expertise in education, communications, marketing, and storytelling. A prolific creator, he has produced numerous documentaries, essays, and scripts and has taught and exhibited his work at colleges and universities across Asia, Europe, the U.S., and Central and South America. Previously, he was a faculty member at Western New Mexico University. Workshop instructor Kim Ryan studied film production at Vancouver Film School and has produced several short films and music videos. Ryan is well known by many families in the Silver City community both as the Cultural Coordinator at the Silco Theater and as a parent involved in sports, theater, and the local schools. Soozy Wollard rounds out the workshop instructor roster. Wollard is an art student at Western New Mexico University and a prolific writer. She works as Assistant Manager at the Silco Theater and is also a beloved caretaker for many local children and pets. Participants will have the option to submit their finished films to the Silver City Community Film Festival. Submission to the Silver City Community Film Festival is free to students. To learn more about the Youth Filmmaking Workshop, the Silver City Community Film Festival, and to register for the workshop, please visit silvercityfilmfest.org or contact the Silco Theater at c.coordinator@silvercitymainstreet.com or 575-956-6198. Silver City MainStreet encouraging a vibrant historic downtown Silver City MainStreet Project Home Silver City MainStreet Project encouraging a vibrant historic downtown Silver City sprang to life during the summer of 1870. The discovery of silver brought thousands of miners and merchants followed in their footsteps. The towns founders decided Silver City would be built to last. In 1880 an ordinance was passed requiring masonry construction for new buildings in the city limits.
