Rainy season in Kolkata can be intense, with daily hard rains and water in the streets up to your knees or even thighs.  For families living in slum communities, or pavement dwellers, rainy season is a challenging time because standing water in the house makes it hard to study, cook food or even sleep, as well as attracting mosquitoes which can bring malaria and other health issues.
