For 600 days, we have been counting. We’ve been counting the days of war, the days of loss, the days of waiting. Counting the days since the hostages were taken. In Jewish tradition, we count the days of the Omer — marking time between Passover and Shavuot, between liberation and revelation. As Shavuot approaches, we wanted to share this Everyone Counts resource, which invites us to use counting not just to mark time, but to infuse it with meaning. The second seminar of Mabat's 3rd cohort began this week with an exploration of the theme of “Home.” Participants traveled to Daliyat al-Karmel, a Druze village in northern Israel, to engage with diverse interpretations of what "Home" can signify—personally, culturally, and collectively. Fellows began the day at the home of Artist Sam Halaby, where they transformed objects from their own homes into works of art. Over a traditional Druze meal at Nurah’s Kitchen, the conversation continued through a learning session grounded in texts and poems that offered varied interpretations of “Home.” This seminar centers on the practice of experiential education.
