We have specific expertise in community engagement evidencebased design research and designing for peacemaking and reparation. We engage communities in the design and development of new buildings spaces and tools to address the root causes of mass incarceration. Our work seeks to counter the societal inequities evident in the dominant architectural models of courthouses and prisons and we do so through the creation of new prototypes such as peacemaking centers transitional housing and mobile villages.

Tickets are available now for “Making Home with Justice,” a lecture at the Irwin S. Chanin School of Architecture of The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art featuring architect and Designing Justice + Designing Spaces co-founder @DeannaVanBuren. The panel will discuss the ecosystems of care required to end mass incarceration, as well as the DJDS installation “Architecture of Reentry” currently on exhibit at the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum’s “Making Home—Smithsonian Design Triennial” exhibit.
