Overview

Wise Wonders Children's Museum Inc. is a U.S. nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting STEM education and fostering a love for science and discovery among children and families.

History

Wise Wonders began as a project of the Junior League of Billings in 2009 with the goal of creating a "museum without walls" that brought science exhibits to local events. Over time, it evolved into a physical museum. A feasibility study in 2012 led to the formation of a steering committee, which developed a business plan and secured 501(c)(3) status in 2014. Initially operating from donated space, the museum expanded its operations and relocated to a new facility in 2019, significantly increasing its exhibit and programming capabilities.

The mission of Wise Wonders is to engage curious, creative, and scientific minds in a playful learning environment, supporting STEM education through interactive exhibits. The museum envisions a connected community that inspires a passion for lifelong family learning. Key values include promoting inclusion, fun, curiosity, creativity, interaction, innovation, and safety.

Programs and Services

Wise Wonders offers a variety of educational programs and activities designed to complement school curricula and encourage STEM education. These include science camps, workshops, after-school activities, and homeschool programs with themes such as biomimicry, chemistry, engineering, and robotics. The museum also hosts events like Lego Robotics leagues and STEM-themed story times for preschoolers. Additionally, it collaborates with local schools and organizations to provide outreach programs and serves as a community hub for events like science fairs and family nights.

Exhibits

The museum features a range of interactive exhibits covering disciplines such as physics, biology, engineering, and mathematics. Notable exhibits include a water table for exploring fluid dynamics, a build-it-yourself section with engineering challenges, and an interactive space for learning about the human body and health.

Community Engagement

Wise Wonders is committed to community engagement, hosting birthday parties, field trips, and special activities throughout the year. It also offers at-home learning resources and DIY science kits to extend its educational reach beyond the museum.

Operational Details

The museum operates Tuesday through Saturday, offering general admission to the public. It is closed on Sundays and Mondays but may host special events on these days. The organization is supported by its board and staff, who are dedicated to maintaining a positive, safe, and encouraging learning environment.
