DCEFF is very excited to co-present screenings of MONIKONDEE June 8 & 9 as part of AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center's DC Caribbean Film Festival! The film follows Boogie, a boatman who delivers essential cargo to Suriname's remote Indigenous communities. While these communities continue to grow their own food, they are becoming increasingly dependent on boatmen like Boogie to bring in vital supplies as floods and droughts destroy their crops and gold mining poisons their water. "In the face of the neglect and destruction of our public lands, it is up to each of us to show our support by visiting every national park we can. And in so doing, we must acknowledge the enduring conservation legacy of Native people, tread lightly, and encourage others to do the same." Great piece by multi-time DCEFF Special Guest James Edward Mills! With a photo by 2025 Festival filmmaker Chad Brown (INWARD) to boot! (fb)
