Take care of yourself and others by staying nourished with the arts. We believe that theatre is a powerful tool for LGBTQ+ equity and we’ll keep going. But we did get hit with some hard news. Along with hundreds of other arts organizations, we were notified that our National Endowment of the Arts grant for this year has been terminated. We were awarded $15,000 to support our groundbreaking new work festival, Re/Generation Studio, which we successfully completed in March. It was a huge success including the participation of dozens of artists, hundreds of attendees, and in partnership with The Goodman. That’s right, we already did the work and paid everyone! NEA awards are structured so that you receive notice of the award, you spend the money, and then you get reimbursed. That makes the recent grant cuts not only cruel, but “arbitrary and capricious” under federal regulations. We filed an appeal and we’ll keep advocating with other companies in a similar situation.
