We're so excited to welcome Andy Lowrie to VisArts as a Visiting Artist-in-Residence! 🎊 Andy Lowrie (he/him) is a jewelry artist who makes wearable, sculptural, and functional objects, as well as works on paper. He is an Australian maker, living and working in the United States. Andy pursues contemporary expressions of jewelry and object making that interrogate and reflect his life and experiences while drawing on the power of a wearable object to act as an extension of a maker/wearer’s intentions and desires. (You might recognize the work in the third photo from our Collectors' Night posts!) Narratives of queerness, family, labor, and environmental catastrophe are currently feeding this work. The potential of process and material as metaphor is also important to his practice, expressed through experimentation with surface finishes that include paint, powder coat, and enamel. Andy will be at VisArts through June 10, spending time in our metal studio. He'll return in the fall for a group exhibition, "A Dream Outside My Body," featuring the work of 10 Baltimore-based artists from the Baltimore Jewelry Center who work in the expanded field of jewelry and metalsmithing. The exhibition will be on view from November 7 – January 11. If you run into Andy around VisArts, be sure to say hello! Explore more of Andy’s work at https://andylowrie.pulse.ly/qetsjbuljl (fb)

💬 "I hope that viewers walk away feeling more attuned to their own cycles of change and the shifts within themselves." "What We Share," VisArts' Annual Resident Exhibition, is on view through June 15. https://www.visarts.org/exhibition/what-we-share/?utm_source=visarts_social&utm_medium=facebook&utm_campaign=exhibitions The exhibition is free + open to the public during VisArts' regular daily hours of 9am–9pm, and features the work of VisArts' 4 Annual Artists-in-Residence: Doah Lee, Evie Metz, April Sopkin, and Luis Vasquez La Roche. The artistic practice of Evie Metz explores cycles of life and the values of human beings. Her world-building process is intimately hands-on, combining craft, performance, and technology. Through magical realism her work often teeters a line between the maternal and the monstrous. On one hand, her works are humorous and playful while on the other they address aspects of the human experience that are existential, primal, and mythical. (fb)
