Housing providers have a crucial role in giving back to their residents and their communities to promote overall community health By: Deborah Blackford, Picerne Senior Vice President and Corporate Broker. As a family-owned business with 100 years of providing housing, we feel housing providers have an important role to play in being good stewards within their communities. While Picerne is heavily involved in the community, we also support organizations like the Nevada State Apartment Association (NVSAA), advocating for policies and practices that keep Nevadans housed. Picerne has built and managed properties throughout the country since 1925. We employ 200 southern Nevadans and have been named a top employer by the National Apartment Association for over three years. Involving residents in their communities promotes a sense of belonging and improves mental health. We are a national company but we live in southern Nevada and host monthly events for our residents, like dinners and “Coffee & Convos” with office staff. We facilitate charitable giving opportunities for residents such as blood drives, breast cancer and Alzheimer’s awareness walks, and local book drives and often, we match their giving. We know that creating an enjoyable and stable housing environment promotes better mental health for residents. We’ve seen these investments translate to stability for residents, 45% of which lease for more than 2 years longer than the southern Nevada average. During COVID-19, we paid over $400,000 in delinquent rent to keep residents housed and provided every resident with a basket of essential household items. We know our efforts supported overall community health and we continue to champion similar projects. Through private or community giving, we challenge others to share the responsibility of uplifting our communities. Thank you Deborah for your inspiring words.
