Skagit’s farmland preservation efforts are often cited as one of the most successful in the country, serving as a model for balancing growth and farmland protection. Skagit County has permanently protected over 14,000 acres of farmland through the Farmland Legacy Program. Nearly 20% of all Ag-Natural Resource Land is now preserved—thanks to the 150+ farmers who have stepped up to keep Skagit farming strong for future generations. If you grew up in Skagit, you probably remember the early morning scent of vined peas—and getting stuck behind a long line of harvesters rumbling down the road! While today's Skagit Valley is famous for its tulips and daffodils, it was once all about green peas. By 2010, commercial pea processing had come to an end, closing a major chapter in our farming history. #skagitonians #skagit #skagitvalley #skagitcounty (fb)

meet a farmer harts farm and homestead ensuring the economic viability of Skagit County agriculture Read more about our mission vision What Were Working on Our Story Five local farm families and their supporters joined together to found Skagitonians to Preserve Farmland SPF. As reflected in the name our mission is to ensure the continued economic viability of Skagit County agriculture and its required infrastructure. It is a mission as compelling and critical today as it was when those first five families and their friends gathered together to defeat a major conversion of farmland. Agritourism We are pleased with the decision by the Board of County Commissioners to enact an emergency moratorium and interim ordinance for Agritourism signaling an opportunity to consider and incorporate the nearly 1000 public comments received by the County last summer including the work and public comments submitted by the SPF sponsored multistakeholder agritourism workgroup.
