“To place service before self.” In Mark 5:21–43, we find a powerful reminder of what that truly means. On his way to help an important synagogue leader named Jairus, Jesus was interrupted by someone society had forgotten—a woman who had suffered for 12 years. While the crowd pressed in and the disciples urged him to stay on track, Jesus stopped for her. He saw her, spoke to her, and brought healing—not just to her body, but to her soul. This is the way of Jesus. At Tri-City Union Gospel Mission, we believe our calling is the same: not to chase prestige or recognition, but to serve the unseen, to love the unloved, and to lift up the weary and the broken. Before Colton met Christ, his life was ruled by anger, addiction, and self-destruction. Consumed by lust and hate, he pushed everyone away—even attempting to end his life. But God had other plans. In his lowest moment, Colton cried out for change—and Jesus answered. He came to the mission and joined the New Life Program where Jesus gave him his life back. Today, Colton walks a completely different path: one filled with love, purpose, and daily surrender to Christ. Though it hasn’t been easy, it’s been worth it. The same God who rescued Colton is still actively working in his life today—and can do the same for anyone who calls on Him. Since graduating from the New Life Program in December, Colton has now joined our front desk team, where he gives back to the mission by serving our residents and neighbors in our men's shelter. “I couldn’t have come this far without Jesus.
