The University at Buffalo Child Care Center, Inc. (UBCCC) is a nonprofit organization providing child care services primarily to the families of the University at Buffalo students, faculty, staff, as well as the broader community. The center operates two sites located on the university's North Campus and South Campus in Amherst and Buffalo, New York, respectively.

History

Established in 1985 on the South Campus, the center expanded with the opening of a second facility on the North Campus in 1998. The South Campus facility was renovated in 2010, and the North Campus facility was expanded, resulting in a total of 18 classrooms capable of serving up to 220 children across infant, toddler, and preschool age groups[1][3].

Mission and Operations

The UBCCC's mission is to provide exceptional child care, focusing on high adult-to-child ratios and developmentally appropriate activities tailored to each age group. The center maintains a diverse population of children and staff, reflecting its commitment to inclusivity. It operates year-round, five days a week, with hours from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., closing only for legal holidays and staff development days[2][5].

Accreditation and Recognition

UBCCC is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), making it one of the few centers in Western New York to receive this distinction. The center also participates in QUALITYstarsNY, earning a 4-star rating, which acknowledges its quality in early childhood education and care[1][2].

Governance

The University at Buffalo Child Care Center, Inc. is a private, not-for-profit organization governed by a board of directors. It does not discriminate on the basis of sex, race, religion, culture, national origin, or ability[1]. The center's operations are supported primarily by tuition and grants from the State University of New York[1].
