Founded in 1956 by 17 pioneering women in investment, it was the first organization for executive women in finance in both the Bay Area and the country[5].

Established in 1956, the organization came into being as a forum where women could exchange ideas, share experiences, and develop their careers in finance[5]. Originally named the Financial Women's Club of San Francisco, it was soon followed by similar organizations in other regions, including New York.
