Teen HYPE is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering adolescents through comprehensive programs focused on leadership, health, social justice, and personal development. Founded in 2004 by Franky Heard Hudson and Ambra Redrick, the organization aims to support youth in overcoming barriers and achieving success in their communities.

Mission and Focus

Teen HYPE's mission is to celebrate youth, confront barriers, and build bridges. It focuses on several key areas:

  • Youth Leadership: Developing leadership skills through training programs that enable adolescents to become Peer Educators and role models.
  • Post-Secondary Education & Career Readiness: Providing guidance and resources for higher education and career preparation.
  • Health & Wellness: Implementing evidence-based health programs, including HIV counseling and sexual health education.
  • Life Skills & Relationship Building: Offering experiential learning experiences that foster life skills and positive relationships.
  • Arts Enrichment: Utilizing theater as a tool for social justice and self-expression.
  • Social Justice: Addressing issues pertinent to adolescents, such as inequality, mental health, and social activism.

Impact

Since its inception, Teen HYPE has impacted over 35,000 youth in the Detroit area. It has trained more than 600 teens as Peer Educators and reported notable outcomes, including zero teen pregnancies and a 100% graduation rate among participants. The organization's approach is rooted in respect, diversity, inclusiveness, excellence, safety, and creativity.

Operations

Teen HYPE is a registered 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization committed to ethical standards of accountability and stewardship. It engages in annual audits to ensure best financial practices and supports a culture of inclusivity by not discriminating based on race, gender, or any other protected characteristics.
