Empowering Voices, Shaping Futures: The First-Ever State of the Youth Symposium On January 22, 2025, the 100 Black Men of Greater Washington, DC, hosted a groundbreaking event—the Inaugural State of the Youth Symposium—at American University's School of Education. But this wasn't just another leadership seminar. It was a defining moment when young Black men took center stage, proving that their voices, ideas, and leadership are shaping the future. A Platform for Youth-Led Dialogue: Spearheaded by Juniors and Seniors in partnership with THE Howard University Collegiate 100, this wasn't just a conversation but a declaration. The day was a declaration that these young men aren't waiting for the future; they are leading in the present. With confidence, intelligence, and poise, they steered powerful discussions that showcased their brilliance and their community's strength. Conversations That Matter: The State of the Youth Panel fearlessly tackled pressing issues impacting young Black men today. The discussions were raw, unfiltered, and eye-opening, offering personal insights into their daily realities. 🔹 Social Media & Mental Health: The impact of social media on self-perception and mental well-being. How is our culture portrayed in digital spaces? Do we see accurate representations or distorted narratives? 🔹 Peer Pressure & Decision Making: The strength it takes to stand alone—real-life stories of young men resisting negative peer influence. The power of positive reinforcement and community support in building resilience. Why strong Black male role models are more critical now than ever. 🔹 Racial Identity & Representation: Unpacking unconscious bias—how it shapes perception, opportunity, and self-image. Navigating authenticity— how young Black men embrace their identity. A Legacy in Motion: The leadership of the Collegiate 100 was instrumental in making this symposium a bridge between generations. Their mentorship, guidance, and unwavering commitment made the conversation impactful and deeply personal. As we look back on this momentous event, one thing is clear—our young men are ready. They are intelligent, capable, and determined to own their narratives. The insights shared at this symposium are a powerful testament to why this work matters. To our mentees: We see you, hear you, and are incredibly proud of you. This is just the beginning—we will continue to elevate, empower, and inspire together. #StateOfTheYouth #100BlackMenDC #LeadershipInAction #MentoringAcrossGenerations #FutureLeaders #100blackmendc #100bmoa #100blackmen #collegiate100 #mentoringmatters #mentoring #youthdevelopment #education #healthandwellness #economicempowerment (fb)
