Meet this adorable litter of Eastern Chipmunks that recently came into our care! Their nest was accidentally dug up, but thanks to quick-thinking finders, they were brought in safely. Did you know Pennsylvania is home to 8 species of squirrels? Most people know about the American Red Squirrel, Eastern Gray Squirrel, Eastern Fox Squirrel, Southern Flying Squirrel, and Northern Flying Squirrel—but did you know the Groundhog, Thirteen-lined Ground Squirrel, and the Eastern Chipmunk are squirrels too?! Even though Eastern Chipmunks are small, they’re busy little ecosystem helpers—spreading seeds, digging burrows, and keeping the soil healthy. Want to help these little ones grow strong and wild? 🐿️ Donate directly to their care: https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/donation-form/dbdf2174-190a-4830-aac3-0f1d7ed7e571 🍼Help us stock up on essentials from our Wildlife Baby Shower Wishlist: https://a.co/8AIX3JW Thank you for being part of their journey from rescue to release! 📸 Stay tuned for updates as these little ones continue to grow! 🐢 Help Us Give Tiny Turtles a Second Chance! 🐣 Turtles are among the most threatened groups of animals on Earth, with many species now in serious decline. Remarkably, most species can live for decades—some species, like box turtles, wood turtles, and snapping turtles, can even live up to 100 years. But reaching adulthood is no easy feat. It takes 15 to 20 years for these longer-lived turtles to mature in the wild, and their early survival odds are incredibly slim. To give an idea, research shows only about 5% of snapping turtle nests hatch, and of those hatchlings, just 1% will survive to adulthood. It's likely very similar odds for other species, and it is why every adult turtle matters—and why every egg is a lifeline to the future. Over the past few years, we’ve had the incredible honor of hatching eggs from multiple turtle species—giving a second chance to babies whose mothers laid eggs while in our care, or who were tragically killed while crossing roads to nest. Last year alone, we successfully hatched over 100 snapping turtle eggs. This year is shaping up to be another big one, with females already beginning to lay. However, with our increased volume, our current incubators are maxed out, and we urgently need to upgrade to meet the growing need. These fragile lives depend on the right conditions to survive—and we need your help to give them that chance. 💚 Please consider donating to our Turtle Incubator Fundraiser. Every dollar brings us closer to protecting the next generation and preserving local turtle populations for years to come. https://www.zeffy.com/donation-form/turtle-incubator-fundraiser (fb)
