The federal government has ended Temporary Protected Status for Afghanistan, effective July 14. Thousands fled Afghanistan in 2021 after the Taliban regained control, many of whom assisted the US government. In a new tactic, government prosecutors are dismissing cases in immigration court so that ICE agents who are waiting outside the court can immediately re-arrest these immigrants. As a result, many will be subjected to expedited deportation. (fb)
