On Friday, April 18th, retired clinical pathologist and Med Tech professor Dr. Darryl Smith presented the Med Tech awards for Outstanding Academic Excellence to two students. Megan Miller and Abigail Bartels were presented with the honors during a presentation to students, Dr. Smith gave on the importance of the role of a medical lab scientist in assisting physicians with proper diagnoses. Dr. Smith noted they will play a vital role in the future of medicine in helping to treat patients who are mothers, sisters, sons and loved ones very precious to families. According to Allegra McMillen, program director of the Medical Laboratory Scientist Program, formerly known as clinical laboratory science or medical technology, "Med Tech," national certification exam scores for Parkview's MLS program graduates are above the national average, attributed to the program's unique training models for students. The Parkview MLS Program is 12 months long, hosting selected students with science majors or degrees at the Parkview Randallia and Parkview Regional Medical Center campuses.
