Whether you prefer to dance to Ravel’s Boléro or “March to the Scaffold” with Berlioz, let your Albany Symphony entertain you, Saturday, April 5th from 7:30-9:30 PM at the Palace Theatre. The concert also features Hindustani violin concerto co-composed by Reena Esmail and violinist Kala Ramnath. In addition, Abhijit Banerjee on tabla will join the orchestra, to bring together Indian Classical Music’s melody and rhythm with Western Classical Music’s harmony, polyphony, and orchestration. The violin concerto explores the ancient concept of the Five Elements (space, air, fire, water, earth), through the modern lens of climate change. Come hear the mesmerizing aspects of traditional Hindustani music, including ragas (melodic frameworks), talas (rhythmic cycles), alankar (ornamentation), and improvisation.
