Construction Update: Our new gastroenterology clinic and endoscopy center designed for patient convenience, easy access and expanded capacity is taking shape. Clergy members have graced Hendrick Health since its founding 100 years ago. An organized chaplaincy program launched in 1957 with the arrival of Charles L. Myers, MTS. A graduate of Howard Payne University and Southwestern Theological Seminary, he was among the first certified hospital chaplains in Texas after completing a training program at Memorial Hospital in Houston. Myers’ daily tasks included comforting patients, families and employees. He also conducted chapel services twice a week. Myers died in 2004 at the age of 91, but hospital chaplains today carry on his traditions, including broadcasting daily a spiritual message over the public communication system.
