Port Clinton Lodge 1718
Port Clinton Lodge 1718 is a local lodge of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, a U.S. nonprofit fraternal organization. Located in Port Clinton, Ohio, the lodge has been a pivotal part of the community since its establishment in 1947.
Founding and History
The founding of Lodge #1718 was initiated by a group of dedicated individuals, including Clem Lauer, Herm Frederick, Otto Heineman, J.G. Kolesar, and Charles Martin Jr. These men, some of whom were already members of Elks lodges in nearby cities like Bellevue and Toledo, came together to form a new lodge in Port Clinton. The charter membership was formally established in January 1947 with 109 members. The sponsoring lodge was the Toledo Elks Lodge, which supported the growth and development of the new Port Clinton lodge.
Initially, meetings were held above the Park-Anderson store on Perry Street. The lodge later acquired a property on Perry Street, where members contributed financially to purchase and renovate the space. Over time, additions like a lodge room and small bar were made by selling certificates to members.
