Introducing Dr. Kristy Somerville-Midgette, the next superintendent of LCS! She brings more than two decades of experience in public education and currently serves as the Division Superintendent for Brunswick County Public Schools. She’ll start on July 1. 🎉 Dr. Somerville-Midgette has deep roots in Lynchburg and LCS. After graduating from the University of Lynchburg with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in special education, she served as an LCS special education teacher for three years. She earned her doctorate in Educational Leadership and Administration from Liberty University. Dr. Somerville-Midgette has served in a wide range of instructional and leadership roles, including Assistant Principal in Cumberland County Public Schools and Principal, Director of Secondary Instruction and CTE, and Assistant Superintendent in Mecklenburg County Public Schools. She’s also held key leadership positions throughout the commonwealth, including President of the Virginia Association of School Superintendents, Vice President of Women Education Leaders in Virginia, and Virginia Governing Board Representative for AASA, The School Superintendents Association. She is a former Clarksville Town Council Member. This year, LCS teachers used grants from the Lynchburg City Schools Education Foundation to bring out-of-the-box learning opportunities to students across the division. From a student disc golf program to job skills training for high schoolers to an elementary drumline, they created unique, hands-on educational experiences that students will remember for a lifetime. 💡 (fb)
