When it comes to 1-month-old Baby in side lying position, here is a physical therapist-approved motor assessment for typical development: 🔹 Head: Baby's head is in line with the trunk and hips, making the body look like it's in a straight line. The head might also be slightly behind the shoulders. 🔹 Trunk: Baby's trunk is typically in line with the head and hips. Baby usually cannot maintain this position independently because they lack trunk muscle strength. 🔹 Upper Extremities: Baby's arms remain close to the chest and in the midline. This position allows Baby to play with their hands together or bring their mouth to their hands. 🔹 Lower Extremities: Baby's legs flex up toward their body. The bottom leg should be in contact with the support surface. The top leg can also rest on the surface or be in contact with the bottom leg. Watch the full video to see the exact positioning of a 1-month-old baby's head, trunk, and extremities. Contact a healthcare provider if you have concerns about Baby's development.
