The Encore Musical Theatre Company
The Encore Musical Theatre Company is a nonprofit organization dedicated to producing high-quality musical theater in Southeast Michigan. Founded in 2008 by Broadway actor Dan Cooney and local residents Anne and Paul Koch, the company aims to enrich the local cultural landscape by bringing professional musical theater to the historic Village of Dexter.
Mission and Activities
The Encore's mission is to create engaging theatrical experiences through a diverse range of musical productions, including Golden Age classics, contemporary musicals, and new works. The company collaborates with both local and national artists to deliver performances in an intimate setting that fosters a strong connection between the audience and performers.
Over the past 15 years, The Encore has produced over 190 shows and events, featuring numerous Broadway and award-winning artists. This dedication to community engagement has significantly contributed to the cultural and economic vitality of Dexter and the surrounding areas.
Programs and Initiatives
One of The Encore's notable initiatives is its Summer Theatre Program, launched in 2010. This program offers educational opportunities for children aged 5-18, providing a supportive environment where they can develop their skills, build confidence, and form lasting friendships. The program has grown to accommodate over 150 students annually.

The Encore operates in a renovated historic building, which has been transformed into a state-of-the-art performing arts center. The venue features an intimate seating arrangement, offering an immersive experience with excellent sightlines and comfort.
