Our dear friend, Phil walked peacefully through the gates of Heaven on Monday night. Just 3 days earlier, God graciously gave us a final moment with him on this side of eternity…one more precious time to see him smile & say “love you” as he has so many times before. Phil Miller is the President of the Board of The Brave Way Home. He is a mentor, a pastor, a leader, a friend, but we asked him to serve as our president because of his deep love & care for others. Mr. Phil, as our kids call him, is who sat down with Ezra, & then with Calla to confirm their decisions to be baptized. He & Ms. Marcia opened their home to our family, served up countless pounds of bacon & modeled what a ministry family looks like for us & for our kiddos. Phil & Marcia made several trips up to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital to visit our sweet Calla, prayed & cried with us in the hope & heartbreak of Calla’s rescue to Heaven & were some of the first people we shared the vision of The Brave Way Home with as God laid it on our hearts. In the last two years, as Phil has walked his own cancer journey, we have seen Phil & Marcia’s faith in Jesus & eternal perspective shine in their courage, their confidence & their calm. Phil’s heart belongs to Jesus. His life has been a beautiful example of humble service to the Kingdom. And for every believer, saved by the Name of Jesus, death has no victory. Home is up ahead, joy is set before us, our faithful Shepherd constantly guides us & eternal glory awaits us. And for this dearly loved, faithful wayfarer, entering the gates of Heaven is Homecoming. How the promises of Heaven bring comfort & even joy in the most heartbreaking moments. Though we have sorrow now, Phil has healing…relief, rest, reunion with those who have gone before him, eternal joy, & the firm promise of resurrection. He is safely Home with his King, his Savior, his Master, his Friend, his Maker, his Father, his Redeemer, Lord & Shepherd. Well done, Mr. Phil. Well done, Mr. President.
