What a weekend out on the Playa! Friends of Black Rock had a fantastic time at this year’s Rendezvous campout. On Saturday, we hosted a Walking Mural Tour through Gerlach, sharing stories and art that reflect the heart of the Black Rock region. Sunday morning, we fired up the griddle and served a warm breakfast of cheesy scrambled eggs, pastries, and hot coffee to fuel campers for the day ahead. We also rolled out our new e-bike trailer and mobile outreach center for the very first time — shifting into high gear, thanks to support from Travel Nevada! The weather couldn’t have been better! We had a great turnout and even greater company. Big thanks to everyone who joined us — and a special thanks to the Winnemucca BLM crew for making it such a warm and welcoming event. Gerlach's open-air gallery reception was this past Friday, as was the first-ever art tour! We welcomed several of the artists and their families, as well as representatives from Travel Nevada who made this project possible. Several folks from local tribes also made their way up and gave us a beautiful opening of drumming and singing. Lucky Day! Members of the British land speed record team were also in town, and Thrust II and Thrust SSC engineer Glynne Bowsher was able to meet Bryce Chisholm who painted one of the cars on Bruno's Country Club wall. Glynn shared some of the fun facts of what it was like to break the sound barrier. Locals assisted in the fun by offering up their vehicles for riders.
