Friends, it is with ALL the emotions in our hearts that NEW announces a meaningful leadership transition: Yodit Mesfin Johnson, President and CEO, will step down from her role on June 30, 2025 (06/30/25). After seventeen (17) years of service - including five (5) as our visionary CEO - Yodit will transition into a new role as Executive in Residence following a brief sabbatical. In this capacity, she will continue to support the organization through January 2026, focusing on consulting partnerships, implementation of NEW’s sociocratic governance model, and CEO transition support. “Leading NEW has been the honor of my life. Together, we’ve reimagined what leadership and justice-centered work can look like in our sector. I’m proud of the team we’ve built and confident in Will’s ability to guide NEW forward with heart, clarity, and deep commitment.” - Yodit As part of a multi-year succession planning process, reflective of NEW’s commitment to cultivating regional leaders, NEW's Mission Circle has unanimously appointed Will Jones III, NEW’s Vice President of Strategy, as the next CEO. Will’s appointment affirms the organization’s belief in growing talent from within and advancing leadership that reflects the communities it serves. Since joining NEW in 2018, Will has led the organization’s resource mobilization, strategic communications, and enterprise strategy. He brings seven (7) years of nonprofit leadership experience, preceded by a successful career in the private sector and the completion of his MBA. His work at NEW has been instrumental in deepening community engagement, expanding philanthropic partnerships, and aligning operations with the organization’s justice-centered mission. “It’s a profound honor to follow in Yodit’s footsteps and get the opportunity to lead an organization that has changed my life,” said Jones. “Yodit’s liberation-centered and status-quo-shifting leadership has created a foundation I’m committed to building on.
