The BeliEve Foundation
The BeliEve Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting grieving families in Minnesota who are facing financial hardship after the loss of a child. The foundation's mission is to provide immediate and practical financial assistance while partnering with other organizations to offer ongoing emotional support and healing.
History
The foundation's genesis was inspired by acts of kindness and compassion following a personal tragedy. Its core values include taking everything personally, emphasizing human connection, and fostering a community where no one grieves alone.
Objectives
The BeliEve Foundation focuses on several key objectives:
- Financial Support: It offers financial assistance to families for various needs such as counseling, funeral services, medical bills, and other living expenses.
- Grief Support: The foundation sponsors grief retreats and therapy sessions to help families cope with their loss.
- Ongoing Support: It maintains long-term relationships with families to support them throughout their healing journey.
Eligibility and Application
To be eligible for support, applicants must meet specific criteria:
- They must be parents or legal guardians grieving the death of a child from 20 weeks gestation to dependent in young adulthood (up to 26 years of age).
- The child's death must have occurred within the last 18 months.
- Applicants must currently reside in Minnesota and have a current and specific financial need directly related to the loss of the child.
Applications are reviewed weekly by a gift approval team. Approved gifts are paid directly to third-party vendors, and the foundation does not provide direct counseling services.
Impact
Since its inception, the foundation has made a significant impact by providing financial support to hundreds of families and sponsoring numerous grief therapy sessions and retreats.
Governance and Financing
The BeliEve Foundation operates as a 501(C)(3) organization, with all donations going directly towards assisting families. The founders cover administrative costs, ensuring that every penny of donations is used to help those in need. The foundation's board is composed of volunteers who bring diverse backgrounds and experiences to the organization.
Values
Core values include being 100% committed to the cause, emphasizing grassroots efforts, and fostering a supportive community. The foundation's approach is centered on empathy, patience, and generosity, reflecting the criteria used to select its board members.
