🎉 Another $981.10 raised - thanks to Ocean Key Resort & Spa, Sunset Pier ~ Key West, and YOU! Ocean Key Resort introduced a 'Round Up' option at Sunset Pier, allowing guests to add a small donation to their checks in support of our efforts. Our goal is to help protect the turquoise waters and abundant marine life in the keys forever. We were honored to be their very first Round Up campaign - and thanks to your generosity, it brought in nearly a thousand dollars! Huge thanks to our friends at Ocean Key Resort and Sunset Pier for making it happen - and to every guest who rounded up to support our mission. 🙌 Each Round Up campaign runs in 30-day increments, and the next one is already rolling through mid-June! May went out with a HAUL - almost 1,000 lbs just this past Saturday! Between Marathon and Key West, volunteers pulled a combined 948 lbs of debris from the water in just one day. In Marathon: The morning crew included two of our longtime regulars who hauled in 154 lbs and spotted a 3-foot baby bonnethead shark cruising the shallows. In the afternoon, five volunteers (including two locals and folks from South Carolina and Florida) found a rusted-out oil barrel off West Sister Rock and cleared another 535 lbs! In Key West: We pulled our 103rd fridge out of the mangroves (!), removed 80 feet of rope, and one of our favorite moments - rescued 14 lobsters from a ghost trap. Total weight: 254 lbs!! This isn’t just trash - we’re talking about styrofoam buoys, a tackle boxes, flip-flops, SO MANY PLASTIC BOTTLES, a holding tank, and more waste that threaten our waters and marine life.
