Primos Dallas

Primos Dallas is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in the Pleasant Grove area of Dallas, Texas. The organization focuses on providing mentoring opportunities by pairing young Latino students with Latino professionals.

History

Primos Dallas was founded in June 2018 by Alicia Serrato, an educator with over 12 years of experience in the Dallas Independent School District. Serrato's inspiration came from her own experiences navigating life as a Texicana and her interactions with students. She envisioned creating a platform where young people could benefit from authentic mentorship relationships, similar to those she had gained personally.

Mission and Activities

The organization's mission revolves around connecting Latino youth with professionals, aiming to provide guidance, support, and role models in their community. Primos Dallas primarily serves students in the Southeast Dallas area, with a focus on high school students.

Approach

Primos Dallas utilizes a unique pairing process to match students with mentors who can push, connect, and guide them. This approach is rooted in Serrato's academic work, including her Master's thesis focused on racial and social justice.
