If teapots are your cup of tea then the Historic Odessa Foundation is happy to present a trove of them - more than 225 on public display for the first time. The exhibition, 𝗠𝘆 𝗖𝘂𝗽 𝗼𝗳 𝗧𝗲𝗮, opens tomorrow, Tuesday, June 3rd, and will be on display through Sunday, August 24, in Historic Odessa's National Register Wilson-Warner House (c. 1769). The exhibit is included in the price of admission (General tour admission is free for members and children under six, $15 for adults, and $10 for groups, seniors, and students.) Collected over the course of 30 years, the teapots reflect one Delaware collector’s enduring appreciation for the charm and artistry of this iconic object. The exhibition features a wide range of teapots arranged throughout the historic home’s cupboards, tables, and sideboards—each representing diverse cultures, time periods, and styles. Visitors can expect to see teapots that span the spectrum from traditional to exotic, petite to bulbous, functional to decorative, and antique to contemporary. The collection also includes pieces produced by renowned ceramic factories and artisans. 𝑭𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑯𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒊𝒄 𝑶𝒅𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒂 𝑪𝒐𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 This beautiful, but mysterious watercolor Coat of Arms is from the collection of Mary “Mollie” Corbit Warner. Unfortunately, research has yet to discover the once known family name that it represents. Typically, arms can be granted or inherited and belong to specific individuals and families. It’s often difficult to match a design to a specific bearer due to the vast number of coats of arms and the possibility of similar designs. The colors within a design can often become clues, or “charges,” that can lead to a possible family identification. So too can the graphic symbols found here like the flying dove above the helmet; the three animal heads; the thistles below the castle-like crenellation that typically refer to Scotland; and the classically dressed lady resting her arm on an anchor and pointing to the masted ship. The Foundation has reached out to the prestigious College of Arms in London to try to uncover the family name. #coatofarms #collegeofarmslondon #HistoricOdessaFoundation #NationalHistoricLandmark #nationalregisterofhistoricplaces #Delaware (fb)
