The Petrified Wood Gallery was founded in 2000 by twin brothers Howard and Harvey Kenfield, who had been collecting fossils, arrowheads, and petrified wood since the 1950s. The brothers not only collected these artifacts but also created intricate sculptures out of petrified wood, which are on display at the gallery. Their collection is a testament to their artistic talents and passion for natural history.

Purpose

The primary purpose of the Friends of the Kenfield Gallery is to ensure that the gallery remains a public resource. This is achieved by managing the facility where the Kenfield brothers' extensive collection is displayed.
