Overview

The Three Butterflies SIDS Foundation is a U.S. nonprofit organization dedicated to addressing Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). Established following the loss of Taylor Paige Cosmas in 2011, the foundation operates under the banner of "Team Taylor," aiming to support research and safety measures related to SIDS.

Mission

The foundation's mission is threefold: Hope, Heal, and Honor. The primary goal is to fund research into the causes and prevention of SIDS, striving for a world where all babies can reach their first birthday. The foundation also focuses on healing and supporting families affected by SIDS and honors the memory of Taylor Paige Cosmas and other babies lost too soon.

Initiatives and Activities

• Team Taylor Arcadia Family Fun Run: This annual 5K event in April raises funds for SIDS research and safe sleep initiatives. It has grown significantly over the years, attracting over 1,100 participants and numerous corporate sponsors.
• Research and Support: Funds raised are primarily used to support the ambitious genetic studies on Sudden Unexpected Death in Pediatrics (SUDP) at Robert's Program at Boston Children's Hospital. These studies explore the genetic landscape of SUDP, including potential links to serotonin and epilepsy-related brain findings.
• Safe Sleep Initiatives: The foundation collaborates with institutions like Phoenix Children's Hospital to provide safe sleep sets to underprivileged families through the Cribs for Kids initiative. Additionally, it supports Arizona's Department of Child Safety by providing baby boxes and sleep sacks.

Impact

Over the years, Three Butterflies has made significant contributions:

• Financial Support: Notable donations include $75,000 in 2014, $100,000 each in 2015, 2016, and 2017, $125,000 in 2018, and $175,000 in 2019. Even during the pandemic in 2020, the foundation raised over $80,000.
• Community Engagement: The organization's events engage the community in reflecting on the loss of babies due to SIDS while raising crucial funds for research.

Recognition and Partnerships

Three Butterflies collaborates with prominent organizations such as Boston Children's Hospital and participates in broader research efforts like those supported by CURE Epilepsy to explore the genetic determinants of sudden unexpected death in pediatrics.
