Virginia Prison Birth Project
Our mission is to support pregnant people and new parents in prison, jails and who are justice-impacted in the community--nurturing wellness, connection, and hope. We provide weekly perinatal education and peer support groups. We offer doula-support throughout pregnancy, labor and delivery, during separation from baby at hospital and postpartum back at the prison. We offer lactaion education and support for people that want their milk delivered to their babies.

Our vision is to collectively work toward a solution for underlying circumstances that lead to incarceration and promote healing for justiceimpacted birthing people and their babies across the Commonwealth. What We Do How the Virginia Prison Birth Project Supports Justiceinvolved families Our trained doulas offer emotional physical and informational support to pregnant and postpartum people in prison throughout pregnancy and birthing during separation from baby at the hospital and postpartum when they return to prison. We facilitate a program that serves lactating incarcerated parents and their babies by collecting pumped breastmilk and shipping it safely to infant custodians.
