The Team at the EcoTarium is saddened to announce that after a decline in health due to age, the difficult decision to humanely euthanize our Virginia opossum, Beaker, was made. He was beloved by guests and staff alike and will be greatly missed. Under human care, opossums typically live for between 2 to 3 years. In the wild, opossums live from 1 to 2 years. At 2 years and 11 months old, Beaker was a geriatric opossum with issues related to his advanced age, including arthritis and significant difficulty with basic movement.
