We are an independent press that focuses on promoting English translations of Central, Eastern and Southeastern European Literature. We are an independent press that publishes and promotes high-quality English translations of literature from Central, Eastern, and Southeastern Europe. We are also dedicated to promoting the work of literary translators from the Washington DC, Maryland, and Virginia tri-state area. Our goal is to work with local institutions and literary organizations to turn the Greater Washington DC area into a hub of world literature in translation.

Books Published by Plamen Press Fiction Poetry and Song News Events and Literature in Translation Book Launch for People and Trees On November 21 2024 Plamen Press in collaboration with The Alan Cheuse International Writers Center and The Writers Center in Bethesda organized a book launch for Azerbaijani writer Akram Aylislis Translation of the Week Sisyphus and I by Ilja Kostovski Sisyphus and I By Ilja Kostovski Translated by Jack Hirschman May 1 2024 marks the birthday of Macedonian poet and literary scholar Ilja Kostovski. In celebration we are featuring Sisyphus Vasyl Makhnos Paper Bridge Featured in Asymptote. Paper Bridge by Ukrainian poet Vasyl Makhno translated by Olena Jennings is featured in an insightful article by Ian Ross Singleton in Asymptote magazine.
