SALUTING AMERICA FOUNDATION

“To instill a strong sense of active citizenship and patriotism in America's K-12 students, raise awareness of our nation's cherished values, and honor those who serve our country." Those 28 words are the mission that Saluting America lives by. Students, teachers, parents, veterans and community leaders come together to support this mission.To build awareness and respect among the younger generation for those who serve our country, Saluting America offers schools free materials and classroom activities designed to honor:• military and veterans• First Responders (including law enforcement, firefighters, EMTs)• public officials• and other groups who serve our country. The Saluting America program focuses on these three areas:Character Development –exposes school students to the positive role models of those who serve both directly (class visits, assemblies, etc.) and indirectly (classroom discussions). These interactions and discussions convey messages that promote truth, integrity, sacrifice and service.Civics Education –classroom discussions prior to creating messages for Tribute Cards and/or participating in the Tribute Contest involve the rights and duties of citizenship.Patriotism – Introduces the concepts of patriotism, citizenship, service and sacrifice through classroom discussions connected with the program elements -- writing a personal message in the Tribute Card, preparing an entry for the Tribute Contest, and reviewing the concepts behind the words found in The American's Creed, developed by William Tyler Page, clerk of the United States House of Representatives in 1917, in answer to a national contest for such a creed. He incorporated in a brief, clear statement the basic American traditions and ideals, as expressed by the founders of our country and by its leading statesmen and writers.
