CCIX Consortium

Overview

The CCIX Consortium is a US nonprofit organization, registered under the EIN: 820604981. It was established to develop and promote an industry-standard specification for coherent interconnect technologies. The consortium aims to enable efficient heterogeneous computing by facilitating the integration of accelerators and general-purpose processors in data centers.

Mission

The mission of the CCIX Consortium is to develop and promote the adoption of industry-standard specifications for coherent interconnect technologies. This technology allows processors based on different instruction set architectures to share data coherently with accelerators, such as FPGAs, GPUs, network/storage adapters, and custom ASICs.

Applications

The CCIX specification is focused on emerging acceleration applications, including machine learning, network processing, storage off-load, in-memory databases, and 4G/5G wireless technologies. By extending well-established data center hardware and software infrastructure, CCIX simplifies the development and adoption of these technologies.

Members

The CCIX Consortium has a diverse group of members from various sectors, including technology companies and research institutions. Notable members include the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC), Ericsson AB, INVECAS INC, Nokia Solutions and Networks Oy, PLDA, SAFARI Research Group at ETH Zurich, and Siemens Industry Software Inc.

Specifications and Resources

The CCIX specification is available to member companies, enabling them to start implementing the standard for new products. Non-member companies can download a free evaluation version of the specification. The consortium also provides resources such as white papers and webinars to support developers and members.

Transfer to CXL Consortium

In August 2023, the CCIX Consortium reached an agreement with the Compute Express Link (CXL) Consortium, a similar organization focused on developing coherent interconnects. Under this agreement, the CCIX Consortium will transfer its specifications, trademarks, and other assets to the CXL Consortium. This move aims to consolidate industry efforts around a single interoperable ecosystem for heterogeneous memory and computing solutions. The CCIX specifications will be archived on the CXL Consortium's website for a period of five years to support ongoing developments.
