🧲 Not All Metals Corrode the Same—Here’s Why That Matters From rusting rebar to tarnished copper roofs, corrosion impacts every metal differently. Understanding how various metals respond to their environments is essential for protecting infrastructure, extending asset life, and choosing the right corrosion mitigation strategy. 🔹 Carbon steel is strong and economical, but highly susceptible to rust (iron oxide) when exposed to moisture and oxygen. 🔹 Stainless steel contains chromium, which forms a protective oxide layer; however, it can still experience pitting or crevice corrosion, especially in chloride-rich environments like seawater. 🔹 Aluminum naturally forms a thin, protective oxide layer that resists corrosion, but it is vulnerable to galvanic corrosion when in electrical contact with more noble metals in the presence of an electrolyte. 🔹 Copper and its alloys generally corrode slowly and often develop a protective patina but can corrode more rapidly in the presence of ammonia, acidic environments, or certain industrial pollutants. 🔹 Zinc is commonly used as a sacrificial coating (galvanizing) to protect steel, corroding in place of the underlying metal, but it will eventually degrade over time. Each metal has unique strengths and vulnerabilities. Selecting the right material depends on the environment, application, and desired service life. 🔗 Learn more about metal behavior and corrosion: https://ow.ly/X6a650VWAvK #CorrosionControl #MaterialsScience #AssetProtection #CoatingsMatter #InfrastructureIntegrity #AMPP #CorrosionPrevention #Metals #Corrosion (fb)

EMERG Student Outreach Program Explore student events happening during the AMPP Annual Conference View Student Events EMERG Student Outreach Program For EMERG the term students includes all those that could potentially enter the materials protection industry. This includes students in primary and secondary schools students in high schools community colleges and universities. Students can enter this model at any point in the life cycle. EMERG is an acronym that defines a life cycle in which AMPP hopes to ENGAGE with students at an early age Kindergarten 8th grade to introduce the industry in a fun and engaging manner.
