In the midst of uncertainty and desperation, this is the work that grounds us , to bring joy and lift spirits to people living in shelter. The children and families loved everything from the piñata and candy bags to the snacks from Baby2Baby, books from Reforma , teddy bears from Bears of Hope and pizza and juices we purchased from kind supporters of Team Brownsville. The children’s faces were painted at their school for Día de los Niños and they came ready for fun. Team Brownsville continues to serve the most vulnerable families and children , those stuck in shelters in border cities. These families and individuals had CBPOne appointments. They had traveled for months and even years to get to safety. And now, their lives have been turned upside down. They are resilient. They want to figure out what the next steps are for them. Most people say they can not return to their country of origin. They have to decide whether they want to stay in Mexico and apply for asylum there or whether they can go to another country. It’s not an easy task and little to no monetary resources make it more difficult. We continue to provide weekly groceries , clothing , baby supplies , hygiene supplies , and nutritional support for kids that are underweight. We’re buying cases of Pediasure and distributing them through our partners at the shelter. We also provide supplies to civil organizations and other shelters in Reynosa and Matamoros. The news has been filled with reports on the big international organizations losing their funding, but it happened to the small organizations as well. We must rely on private donors as well as foundations to continue the work we do. We so appreciate your support as we have over the past 6 years.
