🎉Good news out of Sacramento! Today, the Assembly Appropriations Committee killed two gun control bills that CWA was actively opposing. AB 1187 (Rodriguez) would have required California gun owners to take an 8-hour training course to acquire a firearm safety certificate (FSC) necessary for purchasing or receiving a firearm. CWA believed that AB 1187 was nothing more than harassment by making it even more difficult than it already is to acquire or possess a firearm in California. AB 1316 (Addis) would have required the inclusion of certain information on firearm laws with the sale of a hunting license. CWA opposed this bill because it would create another unfunded mandate on the Department of Fish and Wildlife (DFW). The bill was also unnecessary, given existing hunter safety education requirements. Also, the Committee approved AB 1169 (Gonzalez), a CWA-sponsored bill that would effectively allow more properties to be enrolled in DFW’s SHARE Program, which provides financial incentives to landowners to open their property to the public for hunting purposes.
