Hope for Mozambique Mozambique is the 5th poorest country in the world according to official reports from international organizations like IMF UN Forbes among others. Since 2019 it has been severely affected by Cyclone Idai considered by the UN as one of the worst calamities in the Southern Hemisphere affecting millions of people and leaving a trail of destruction and misery with hundreds of thousands of families losing everything and becoming homeless without access to clean water and living in rubble in subhuman conditions. The disaster exacerbated an already critical situation in the central region of the country which every year faces calamities caused by cyclones and floods. In 2019 Tarik Mohallem moved to Africa with his family for a year to serve with a social enterprise to help those displaced by the cyclone creating the Hope for Mozambique Institute.
