#ThrowbackThursday to October 10, 1979 — the day it all began. On this date, a dedicated group of park lovers gathered County of San Diego Parks and Recreation for the first formal meeting of what would become the San Diego County Parks Society. They adopted bylaws, elected the first Board of Directors, and laid the foundation for a nonprofit that would go on to support generations of park programs, community events, and conservation efforts.

Sat. , May 24, Memorial Day weekend, join us at El Capitan County Preserve for the Warrior Hike Challenge, a physically demanding, emotionally powerful tribute to our fallen heroes. The trail to El Cajon Mountain is one of the toughest in the county, and we’ve designed this experience to reflect the strength, endurance, and sacrifice of our military service members.
