Tallgrass Legacy Alliance Welcome to the Tallgrass Legacy Alliance What was once a virtual sea of grass and wildflowers from Ohio to Kansas and Canada to Texas has been mostly plowed under paved over or built upon. Less than four percent of the nations tallgrass prairie remains and 80 percent of whats left can be found in the Flint Hills of Kansas. The Tallgrass Legacy Alliance Inc. TLA was created in 1999 as a partnership among local ranchers agricultural and conservation organizations and representatives from state and federal agencies to spearhead a conservation initiative to preserve the four million acres of tallgrass prairie in the Flint Hills some of the last stands of tallgrass prairie in the nation.
